ACT 2

Scene 1

The Forest

[ A group of FAIRIES dance in a circle and SING in front of the bower of ROWAN.]

FAIRIES

O happy is this night!

 Beatrice is gone!

Lifted is the vile curse

She put on Oberon!

Our Virgin Queen shall wed

King Oberon again!

Blessed be their wedding bed!

Forever may they reign!

Enter OBERON and TITANIA with their trains, except PUCK. TITANIA wears a huge blue diamond pendant.

OBERON

I must know who gave it you, else our second wedding be cursed like the first!

[ TITANIA ignores his urgency and seats herself so that her fairies may prepare her for her nap.  They remove her crown and several brush sections of her long golden hair.] 

SEADEW

Shall I remove the necklace?

TITANIA

 No, Seadew.  I will nap wearing it and perhaps this blue diamond will  bring me a pretty vision.

[ BIZZ BAFF THE BISCUIT BASHER/TOOTH FAIRY bows before THE FAIRY QUEEN. TITANIA gives BIZZ BAFF a sack of coins.]

TITANIA

A coin for each tooth, gentle Bizz Baff.  Do not stop for biscuits this night.  Make haste to return for our wedding, where thou shalt have all the biscuits thee can bash.

BIZZ BAFF THE BISCUIT BASHER /TOOTH FAIRY

Yes, Your Majesty.

[BIZZ BAFF takes the sack of coins, bows again and as she begins to make her exit, she is stopped by various little fairies, each repeating the same reminder, one by one. OBERON only glares as she passes him.]

FIRST, SECOND, THIRD & FOURTH FAIRY

Hurry back. Do not stop for biscuits this night, Bizz Baff The Biscuit Basher!

[BIZZ BAFF exits.]

OBERON

[ To his train of frightened, guilty looking fairies ]

Where is my Puck?

  
[His fairies shrug, shake their heads, bite their nails, look away.]

OBERON

Then away with all of you and do not return without him!

[ They exit quickly, relieved to be alive. ] 

TITANIA

My Lord Oberon, you shall know all after the festivities. This is not the time for long stories.  Now I will rest for the last time a virgin in the bower of Rowan.  Thereafter share we a fertile bed. 

[ Enter ROWAN, a beautiful and fierce looking fairy who has been guarding TITANIA'S sleep since the Donkey incident.  She takes TITANIA'S hand and escorts her to the secured bower. ]

TITANIA

[ To Rowan ]

We trust he will not taint again

  With his fascinating flower,

 Guard me one last time, fierce Rowan,

 In thy impervious bower.

 [ TITANIA kisses OBERON on her way to the bower.  She disappears inside the bower.  OBERON is dumbfounded.  TITANIA'S FAIRIES sing softly.]

FAIRIES

Away, away, for none may enter here,

Save our Queen Gloriana.

May she find peace and restoration here,

Our lovely Queen Titania.

[TITANIA'S FAIRIES form a ring around ROWAN'S bower and stand guard with fierce ROWAN, who blocks the only entrance.]

OBERON

Then I will rest as well.

[ OBERON gets comfortable and tries to settle in for a nap.  He tosses and turns and fidgets for what seems like an eternity and then rises in a controlled fury.]

OBERON

Out of my way! This is not to be endured!  Titania, do not torture me more!

[ OBERON easily breaks through the fairy ring and stands eye to eye with ROWAN.]

OBERON

It is my second and best wedding night, so I will try to be very polite!

[ OBERON easily picks up ROWAN and gently sets her aside and kicks in the bower's wooden door. The bed in the bower is empty. TITANIA is gone. The fairies cry out and begin searching.]

ROWAN

This cannot be!

OBERON 

Find her!

[ They all make a mad exit .]
